winter warmer: chai latte

Sub-zero wind chills, snow every other day... it's winter in Michigan, guys!

Welcome to it.

Fortunately, there's a way to make it a little less depressing. The easiest little low calorie chai latte you can imagine. Sorry, Starbucks--I'm over your overly-sweet, boringly-spiced chais.

My chai latte will knock your socks off AND it's vegan AND it's low in calories with vitamins AND it's a fraction of the price. Sold? K, great.

For a nice, big travel mug of my low calorie chai latte to take with you as you freeze your ass off outside, you need:

  • 1 1/2 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk (Trader Joe's makes a good one)
  • a bag of chai tea
  • two tablespoons of sugar

Heat up your milk to almost boiling, either on the stove or pop it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Drop in your tea bag and push it down to soak it. Leave it for about five minutes.

(This will give you time to bundle yourself up in your coziest scarf and hat and jacket before you make the trek outdoors.)

Grab a spoon and smash the teabag against the side of the mug to squeeze out all of those yummy spices, and then take it out and discard it. Add your two tablespoons of sugar and mix up your drank.

And that's it! You're setting yourself back about 130 calories for this guy. Well worth it considering a Venti chai at Starbucks is about 310 calories. You've got a drink with half the cals that's twice as good.

Now go out there and start your day--OWN IT, GIRL.
