galentine's day

when i lived in virginia, my mom would send me packages frequently. in one of the boxes, i found some beautifully patterned paper that i ended up using as a liner for the inside of a '50's-style end table. i asked my mom about the papers, and she said there was the cutest little store filled with gorgeous paper products that just opened up in our downtown.

when i moved back, i knew i had to check this place out.

this shop, called rock paper scissors, opened their first location in 2011 in tecumseh, mi. quickly gaining popularity (and rightly so), another location was opened in ann arbor in 2012, and a pop-up emerged in detroit this past holiday season.

last thursday, the rock paper scissors in ann arbor put on a "galentine's day," borrowed from the parks and recreation episode where leslie throws a valentine's day party for her girl friends.

according to leslie knope, "february 14th, valentine's day, is about romance. but february 13th, galentine's day, is about celebrating lady friends. it's wonderful and it should be a national holiday."

i agree, leslie.

my friend and i made our way to the galentine's day party at rps after work for an evening filled with coloring ryan gosling and bill murray valentine's day cards, french macarons, giggling at the many off-color all-occasion cards available, and perusing the beautiful kate spade and sloane ranger accessories.

we then checked out the pastries, brought in by sweet heather anne. lovely french macarons, hilarious twitter-inspired cookies (one read, "u r beautiful #nofilter." how's that for awesome?), and unique cakes were a few things that i noticed that set this bakery apart from others in the area. oh, and the adorable packaging and tablescape. it was obvious that they put a lot of care into what they do.

i had to pick up a little box of french macarons for myself... earl grey tea with ganache and grapefruit. they were utterly perfect.

it was a low-key, cute event showcasing a couple of the great new talents in ann arbor. can't wait to see what else she has planned!

if you want to check either of them out on their websites or social media, here are the links:

or, if you're in the area and want to haul your ass down there, rps is on main street right next to espresso royale, and sweet heather anne is further down main street toward depot street. if you need any gifts at all, either place is an awesome bet.

hope you all had a great weekend!
